As a member of the Commercial department in Shell UK Upstream, you will have the opportunity to shape the future and create long term value for the Group, building on our existing oil and gas business and driving towards a cleaner energy portfolio.

The Commercial department provides commercial support to both the operated and non-operated oil and gas business, pursues Mergers and Acquisitions activities, drives energy transition projects and provides economic analysis across the asset and projects portfolio.  As an integral part of the Commercial department, the Economics team (8 persons strong) provides economics support for all aspects of the UK Upstream business: capital investments, commercial negotiations, business planning and reserves reporting.



What’s the role?

As an Upstream and Energy Transition Economist you will:

• Act as a core member of multi-disciplinary teams, contributing to quality conversations by integrating valuation assumptions in decision analysis and delivering value insights to decision makers.

• Deliver commercially sound, accurate, timely and fit-for-purpose economic analysis that supports efficient and effective decision making (including appropriate Risk and Uncertainty analysis).

• When necessary, modify, build and assure new economic models to cope with changes in business models and/or commercial architecture.

• Support and influence the preparation of commercial negotiating strategies and other external submissions as required by the business.

• Lead or provide economics support to the business planning and reserves reporting processes for your assigned assets / projects across the Economics team.

• Support strategy work and Energy Transition / New Business / Exploration activities as required.



What we need from you

We have multiple roles for candidates with varying levels of relevant experience.

• Substantial Upstream or Energy Transition experience.

• Prior commercial / valuation experience. Demonstrable expertise in constructing and developing discounted cashflow models will be an advantage.

• Strong numeracy skills – able to pay attention to detail whilst not losing sight of the bigger picture.

• Performance focus – performs with a high degree of independence and delivers as promised.

• Stakeholder management skills – manages the balance between support and challenge.

• Integration – willing to lead and integrate across functions to solve problems.

• Continuous improvement – always seeking to improve, displays a learner mindset.

• Proven leadership skills. Able to build an environment where care, diversity and inclusion are at the core.
