Description

We are currently seeking a high performing individual to join the Commercial Banking (‘CMB’) Asia Business Finance team in the role of Regional Head of Structured Finance & Trade, CMB Asia. This role reports to the Regional Head of Business Finance, CMB Asia and the Global Head of GTRF Finance.

The role would be well suited to an individual preparing for a wider role in the Regional or Global Finance team and a talented future leader is the most important selection criteria.

We will consider candidates from across a range of financial skillsets including: analytical, commercial, accounting, business partnering, control and operational. Previous experience of CMB or Global Banking ‘GB’ is preferable but is not essential.

The diverse nature of the role requires someone who can drive and support the team in day to day activities and business discussions, as well as in their broader career aspirations and learning development.


Responsibilities 

1: Optimising business performance  

• Partner with Regional Asia business leaders across three areas: GTRF, Coverage and Structured Finance to drive performance and optimal balance sheet deployment.

• Support the business in their strategic objectives across Asia and its sub-regions: Hong Kong, HASE, China and South & South East Asia

• Measure, report and track performance through the provision of data and regular management information  

• Be an active member of Regional Product Executive Committees / Leadership meeting to bring to life the risks and opportunities of achieving plan; connecting financial information to non-financial data points

• Ensure capital and people resource allocations align to the CMB and Global GTRF strategic objectives and provides a return on investment

• Leading the annual planning, forecasting and stress testing across product and sub-regions

• Act as one of several go-to people for Asia CMB Finance and Global GTRF Finance on a range of topics or subjects

• Ensure RWA reporting is accurate and any data gaps are investigated in a timely manner; provide advice and an opinion on optimising capital deployed to the region by the entity/Group  


2: An effective operating model:

This is a key leadership role in the business finance teams for Asia CMB and Global GTRF to drive a high-performing team to deliver at pace in a dynamic environment to meet both business and finance requirements; requiring:

• Ability to operate with and within a lean but talented regional team; able and willing to get into the detail as needed

• Ability to engage and communicate effectively with senior management across the Business and within Finance 

• Providing thought leadership into opportunities to digitalise or automate manual processes

• Ensuring a strong control environment is in place and with pro-active input into issues to ensure a timely resolution

• Understanding, communicating and overseeing core finance processes, which will include forecasting, annual planning and reporting, both internal and external



Requirements

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you should meet some of the following attributes:

• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills to support and challenge business decisions thoughtfully, precisely and confidently

• An effective team leader, who can work on a self-directed basis; and balance multiple diverse priorities and stakeholders

• An ability to interpret trends in Commercial Banking in Asia, especially trade; and how they may impact our customers and current or future performance

• A sound understanding of drivers of profitability and returns in financial institutions

• A high standard of spoken and written English delivered in a style which informs actionable steps

• An ability to understand trends in data and draw conclusions based on correlation between data points

• An ability to work at fast pace often with limited information/guidance and independently formulate solutions to challenges that arise

• High emotional intelligence to understand and pre-empt people issues or other concerns

• An ability to flex style to manage and drive the teams’ results

• A practical approach to preparing requests from leadership often at short notice or with limited guidance



This role will be based in Singapore or Hong Kong.
