Job Description:

The Opportunity  

We are looking for dynamic and dedicated Quality Assurance Manager, who will be responsible for assuring the safe, quality and legality of food products through the entire McDonald’s system from our suppliers to our restaurants. Developing a team of experienced technical consultants to protect and build Brand Trust along with developing and leading the supplier food safety and quality systems to mitigate risk and address emerging issues. 


What will my accountabilities be? 

This role is responsible for the food safety, quality, McDonald’s policy and legislative compliance of products from our supplier base through to restaurant.   

> Line management and leadership of a team of QA consultants  

> Develop ‘best in class’ collaborative supplier relationships to ensure ‘Supplier self-management excellence’ approach to supplier management  

> Liaise with Global Quality Directors on specific supplier accounts, for core suppliers 

> Maintain the category management approach with senior colleagues in strategic sourcing, sustainable & ethical sourcing and new product development 

>  Completion and responsibility for relevant supplier reviews and targets Lead the key departmental systems such as quality systems manual, MERLIN & PIM 

> Lead McDonald’s UK and ROI Quality Management System procedures and policies: carry out global standards and implement local standards when appropriate 

> Strategic development of QA 3-year plan, and action plans within the department to instigate and run departmental change. 

> Support specific business initiatives to achieve the business priorities and growth plan 

> Deputise for Head of Department with UK &I Ireland executives, on a global stage and Franchisee forum 

> Operate on a McDonald’s  global level, facilitating the UK and ROI technical team to add value and innovation  to the business 

> Represent UK and Ireland supply chain technical and food safety discussions with both internal and external partners  

> Develop and lead the QA department budget 


What Team will I be a part? 

This is a role within McDonald’s UK & Ireland. You will work within the Quality Assurance, Nutrition and Food Safety team, which sits within the Supply Chain team at McDonald’s. This role will report into the Head of Quality Assurance, Nutrition and Restaurant Food Safety.  


Who are my customers? 

Internal customers include Supply Chain Services and Strategic Sourcing, Sustainable and Ethical Sourcing, Food Development, Restaurant Solutions Group, Marketing, Global Quality and Strategic Sourcing Teams, McDonald’s Executive Team, Franchisees and Restaurants 

External customers include Food Suppliers, Martin Brower, Trading Standards and EHO, Government and NGOs, Trade bodies and Technical Institutions 


Qualifications:

What background do I need to have? 

> Have a degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Food Technology or a related industry experience in food retail, manufacturing or hospitality 

> Demonstrate experience of working in multiple food categories. Experience in High Risk environments, meat or fish would be advantageous 

> Hold minimum level 3 haccps and lead auditor training Solid track record of line management and people development 

> Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a high level of numeracy, good negotiation skills  

> Be able to work alone and collaboratively as part of a team, and be able to liaise with colleagues and suppliers at all levels 

> Demonstrate sound decision-making skills 

> Demonstrate a positive demeanour with strong focus on culture of continuous improvement 

> Be an active industry networker  

> Be proficient with Microsoft Office software, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. 

> Comfort and experience working in a fast paced and changing working environment, and help other to adapt in complicated circumstances or during periods of change 

> Ability to make evaluative judgments Excellent interpersonal skills, curious mind set, confident, independent and logical problem solver 

> Must have a valid driver’s license, ability to maintain a valid and current passport and have the ability to travel domestically and internationally depending on business needs. You will be required to work routinely in office environment with ability to visit supply sites (domestic and international) and Restaurants as required.
