Job Description

BPY is a diversified, global real estate company that owns, operates and develops one of the largest portfolios of office, retail, multifamily, industrial, hospitality, triple net lease and self-storage assets. The Corporate Accountant will be a member of the Brookfield Property Partners (BPY) Corporate team, focusing on maintaining the corporate books and records for over 100 entities.

The role would support the management of Brookfield Property Partners within the business. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in real estate, be self-driven and a willingness to be hands-on and dive into the detail. The candidate should have excellent communication and listening skills with a proven ability to partner across multiple business functions and regions.


Job Description:

* Maintain the inventory of derivative contracts across Canadian and Bermuda entities, confirm derivative contracts with counterparties, and prepare/record quarterly journal entries.

* Assist with preparation of the Corporate quarterly reporting pack.

* Prepare financial statements and other legal entity financial information based on tax, lender, and regulatory agency requestsAnalyze and explain interest expense QoQ variance for debt, derivatives, credit facility, and intercompany loans.

* Analyze and explain interest expense QoQ variance for debt, derivatives, credit facility, and intercompany loans.

* Prepare recurring journal entries for items such as cash, accruals, reporting top-side reclasses.

* Maintain closing balance support and roll-forward reconciliations for significant and required balances within the Corporate entities, based on internal control requirements.

* Assist with requests from internal and external auditors relating to the Corporate ledgers.

* Confirmation of derivative contracts and maintenance of derivative inventory.

* Information to provide to the external/internal auditors.

* Journal entries to be booked.

* Maintenance of work files and work papers.


Qualifications     

* Bachelor’s Degree.

* Pursuing CPA desired.

* Minimum of 1-2 years accounting experience.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

* Experience with Quantum, Chatham, MS Dynamics, and OneStream desired, but not required
